Total Drama (often shortened as TD ) is a Canadian animated television serial created past Jennifer Pertsch and Tom McGillis that premiered on Teletoon in Canada on July 8, 2007, and on Cartoon Network in the U.S. on June 5, 2008.[vii] The series is both a homage and satire of mutual conventions from reality boob tube contest shows.

Each flavour revolves around a grouping of teenagers competing in a fictional competition similar to that of Survivor, in that the contestants compete in challenges for rewards and immunity from elimination. As the contestants develop relationships with each other, they are progressively eliminated from the game until simply one remains to be awarded the grand prize. The countdown series consists of 5 seasons (Island, Action, Globe Bout, Revenge of the Island, and the ii-part All-Stars & Pahkitew Island) that have aired over the form of several years.[8]

Total Drama was developed and produced by Fresh TV and was distributed by Cake Entertainment. The series is funded in part by the Canada Media Fund (formerly the Canadian Tv set Fund), and the Canadian Film or Video Product Tax Credit.[xi] The first season was funded past Xenophile Media, Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund. The series, primarily targeted at tweens and teenagers, was animated at Elliott Animation and directed by Todd Kauffman and Marking Thornton of Neptoon Studios.[12] The creators, Tom McGillis and Jennifer Pertsch, studied what teenagers liked and disliked nearly reality boob tube shows in the writing procedure.[13]

In a Reddit Q&A on September 25, 2018, three weeks after the premiere of Full DramaRama, when asked if there would be boosted seasons, McGillis responded with "Nope. Sorry to be a dreamkiller, but there's no market place for this experience in the wider amusement market correct now", indicating plans inverse as time went on.[23]

On February 17, 2021, it was announced that 2 new seasons were being produced for Drawing Network and HBO Max.[ten]

Full Drama has had a total of 52 characters in the series who were introduced as contestants through five seasons. The beginning three seasons consist of an original cast, with a full of 25 characters (22 are introduced in the first episode of the series, while the other three are introduced in the season two special before becoming primary characters in season iii), while the fourth flavour consists of only a new bandage with 13 characters. However, the fifth flavour brings back 7 contestants from both casts each to compete together for the showtime half, while also introducing a third cast with 14 new characters for the second half.

Past season, 22 characters competed in Season one, fifteen competed in Season 2, 18 competed in Season iii, 13 competed in Season 4, and 14 characters competed in each half of Season five (28 total for the season).

Voice actors [edit]

Total Drama has garnered a cult following.
